Yesterday we spent the whole day in San Clemente with about 20 total blackbelts, and about 200 total guests. Professor Flavio Almeida arranged to have many of the black belt guests share a technique. Our time spent there was awesome…. each professor had a story about Professor Flavio that entertained us all. Felipe Guedes (Purple Fury) shared with the group a few videos that he created that showcased the GB San Clemente Students, paid homage to Professor Flavio and welcomed everyone to the Grand Opening. The mats were packed during the seminar and the back of teh school was packed, enjoying the tasty food the GB San Clemente student Peter whipped up.
I tried yesterday with Dave to get good audio but all of our great gear failed us in the end… for now, here is a (LONG) slideshow with some images…
I have been busy editing the FIRST EVER video podcast interview, so once it is complete, I will post it. I took the chance and asked Professor Flavio Almeida to interview Professor Rentao “Babalu” Sobral, and it turned out GREAT ! Tomorrow I am going to visit Babalu again at the Strike Force Media Day at his new academy, so I plan to update you all when I can get those images completed as well.
Tonight at Gracie Barra San Clemente, we were blessed to be joined by Martin Rooney. Among other things, he is the author of “Training for Warriors”. He took us all through an hour long warm up that had many of us sore already !
Here are some images from tonight:

And lastly, here is Martin having a little fun with Professor Flavio Almeida:

Hi everyone… well for those of you who do not know, my wife and I have recently contributed to the over-population of California :) Baby Grace Eva was born on September 8. BUT that’s not the point of this post… the point is, there has been little activity due to her arrival but this coming week will prove more productive.
Babalu Sobral is having his new academy’s grand opening on Saturday, and the Gracie Barra Podcast will be there. If you have anything that you would like to know, please ask int he comments below.
Next Wednedsay or Thursday, I will be sitting down with Martin Rooney to talk. So again, here is an open invite for questions that you would like to ask him.
So that is what’s coming up, please continue to come to the site. There is going to be a TON of stuff during and after the upcoming GB Tournamenet.. for more info, go to http://www.gbcompnet.com/
See you soon !
Hi everyone, I thought I would share this with you. I keep my eye on a few blogs for BJJ and MMA and ran into this one.
As the tournament was completely wound down, I ran into Professor Mansor. He is the Chief Referee of the IBJJF (International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation), the fine group that puts on the US Nationals, the Worlds Gi and No-gi and other competitions.

Wait for it…. wait for it….. we now have posted the 10th episode of the Gracie Barra Podcast. Just stick with us, 10 is only the beginning.
Remember, I can always use suggestions of either topics or people to interview, so please, feel free to email me or post a comment. This site is FUELED by our community, so if you are feeling helpful, lemme know !
Now, on with the podcast…
This is the 2nd interview with Elias Ramirez. He is always fun to watch, talk to and train with. Check it out !

Edward (Ed) Grace sat down with us to talk about his road to the Gold, his past training, and his future with his fiance Becky.

I am still working to get all 5 interviews out to you tonight. I have posted the interviews with Angy Ormondo and Kelly Rundle but I still have one with Edward Grace (current Men’s Blue Belt No-Gi Open Class National Champion), Elias Ramirez (reigning Men’s Blue Belt No-Gi Open Class World Champion) and Chief Referee for the International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation, Alvaro Mansor.
I should have most, if not all of them posted tonight.
Don’t forget, you can subscribe to the podcast in iTunes and download all the new episodes automatically. Look for the icon on the right ——->
I was introduced to the oldest competitor and just had to interview him. Not only did Kelly win a LOAD of medals, he was down to earth and outright nice. Check out the interview below the image.
